September 22 is “Fitness Day” in Japan, marking the founding anniversary of the Japan Fitness Association. In the spirit of the occasion — and the fact that the glutes are among the body’s most important muscle groups — anime news site Anime! Anime! asked its readers: which anime character do you most associate with butts?
The poll ran from September 12 to 18, 2026, collecting 133 responses. Respondents skewed male (roughly 65%) and young, with about 55% in their 20s and 20% aged 19 or under.
1st Place — Nohara Shinnosuke, Crayon Shin-chan (~32%)
The kindergartener from Kasukabe ran away with first place at around 32% of the vote. Shinnosuke’s signature move, the “Ketsudake Seijin” (Butt-Only Alien) dance — in which he drops his pants and wiggles while chanting — is one of anime’s most enduring gags. Readers also cited the “Ketsu-aruki” (butt-walking) escape he pulled off when his hands and feet were tied up in one film, and the “Ketsugao-Man” bit where he pulls his trousers over his head to make a butt-face.
One reader recalled a movie tagline that read “Shinnosuke’s Butt — Sealed!!” and noted with a laugh that it probably should have been sealed all along. Meanwhile, his latest film, Crayon Shin-chan: Kiki Kaikkai! Ora no Yokai Vacation, currently in theaters, features an “Oshiridama” (butt-ball) as a key plot device and has already surpassed ¥2.7 billion at the box office — a new all-time record for the franchise.
2nd Place — Oshiri Tantei, Oshiri Tantei (~8%)
The butt-faced gentleman detective — whose IQ of 1104 is a pun on “ii oshiri” (good butt) — took second place with about 8% of the vote. His signature finishing move, “Shitsurei, okasete itadakimasu” (“Pardon me while I let one go”), never fails to get a laugh, even from adult fans who noted that the sudden shift to a gritty, realistic art style during the move still cracks them up. Readers also pointed out that his love of high-fiber sweet potatoes makes his special attack particularly potent.
3rd Place — Ruriba Rura, Bad Girl (ばっどがーる) (~5%)
The high school beauty YouTuber and reader model from the currently airing TV anime Bad Girl landed third with around 5% of the vote. Despite her petite frame, Rura has a notably glamorous figure, and a memorable episode 11 scene sealed her place in this ranking: after inhaling a mysterious substance called “Atorinium” during a solo camping trip for her channel, she lost control and was later found with her backside wedged firmly in a large tree — earning her the nickname “Yajiri” (Wild Butt).
