Last week’s Episode 47 generated huge buzz with its depiction of Ishida Uryū — a Quincy — teaming up with the Arrancar to challenge Yhwach. Fans flooded social media with reactions like “Ishida is basically the main character!” and “The three-way alliance of Ishida, Nelliel, and Halibel is too hype.”

Tsukishima’s Ability Turns the Tide

In Episode 48, Yhwach’s overwhelming power shatters Ichigo’s Bankai, Tensa Zangetsu, plunging him into despair. Even Inoue Orihime‘s ability “Rejection of Fate” cannot restore it, because Yhwach destroyed it in the future — a point in time Orihime’s power cannot reach.

Enter Ginjō Kūgo and Tsukishima Shūkurō. Tsukishima uses his ability “Book of the End” to insert himself into Ichigo’s past, creating a timeline in which Tensa Zangetsu was never broken. With that alteration in place, the future destruction loses its causal grip, and Orihime is finally able to repair the blade.

Tsukishima has long been a fan-favorite meme — “It’s all thanks to Tsukishima-san” — because of his past-altering power. Earlier this cour, in Episode 45, fans were already calling out his name when Orihime found herself in danger. Now that he has genuinely saved the day, reactions poured in:

Aizen Sōsuke Steps Forward to Face Yhwach
