The TV anime Chibi Maruko-chan (ちびまる子ちゃん), based on the original manga by Sakura Momoko, is set to air its beloved annual summer event: five consecutive weeks of spooky, slightly eerie episodes under the special programming block 「まる子の夕涼み~ちょっぴりこわくて不思議な世界~」 (“Maruko’s Evening Cool-Down: A Slightly Scary and Mysterious World”), running from August 2 through August 30.
The event, held every August, brings together episodes with a light horror and mystery flavour — the kind designed to give viewers a refreshing chill during the sweltering summer heat.
Episode Schedule
- August 2 — “Is the Hanawa Mansion a Haunted House?” — Maruko is nervously watching a paranormal TV special at home when Tama-chan shows up with a flyer for a haunted house attraction at a local department store.
- August 9 — “Does Maruko Meet a Yokai That Loves Studying?”
- August 16 — “Maruko Is Terrified by a Mysterious Book”
- August 23 — “The Cursed Transceiver”
- August 30 — “Is Big Sis a Psychic?”
Comment from the Producer
“We’re back with our August-only tradition of slightly spooky summer episodes! Summer vacation is packed with fun for Maruko and her friends, and during this special season, ordinary everyday moments transform into ‘just a little bit scary’ experiences. We hope viewers will feel that same mix of excitement and suspense alongside Maruko — and perhaps even recall their own summers of long ago through these slightly mysterious stories that just might make the heat feel a little cooler. Look forward to next week’s broadcast!”
