The smartphone app Chiikawa Pocket (Chiipoke) — the first mobile game based on illustrator Nagano‘s hit manga Chiikawa — made its presence felt at the Sendai Tanabata Festival (仙台七夕まつり), one of the three great festivals of the Tohoku region, held from August 6 to 8, 2026 in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture.
Yukata-Clad Characters Light Up Hapina Nakakecho
As part of the “Chiipoke Natsu Matsuri 2026” campaign, the team installed special Chiipoke Tanabata decorations along the Hapina Nakakecho Shopping Street, famous for its spectacular rows of colorful traditional fukinagashi streamers. Chiikawa, Hachiware, Usagi, Momonga, and Kurimanju all appeared in charming yukata designs, blending seamlessly with the festival’s traditional aesthetic. The display quickly became a popular photo spot, drawing fans, families, and tourists alike to stop and snap pictures throughout the event.
Free “Chiipoke Natsu Uchiwa” Fan Giveaway
At Haremachi Court on the second floor of Sendai Station, visitors who showed the Chiikawa Pocket app on their smartphones received a free “Chiipoke Natsu Uchiwa” paper fan. The front features the characters in yukata, while the back showcases artwork from the in-app “Mermaid Island” event — a summery design that proved a hit with fans passing through the station.
Limited-Edition “Chiipoke Natsu Matsuri 2026” Merchandise
Haremachi Court also hosted sales of limited-edition merchandise for the event. Alongside fan-favorite items like stickers, the lineup included summer-themed goods such as kinchaku drawstring pouches and tenugui hand towels, which proved popular as festival souvenirs and gifts.
