The original animated feature film Cho Kaguya-hime! (超かぐや姫！) is set to return to Japanese cinemas from Friday, September 18, 2026, in both special-format and standard screenings. Alongside the revival, organizers have announced format-exclusive attendee gifts, a wave of new limited merchandise, and a special concession item.

About the Film

Set in the virtual world of 〈Tsukuyomi〉, Cho Kaguya-hime! follows a group of girls whose bonds are forged through song, weaving together live-streaming culture, music concerts, and social media into a single audio-visual experience. The film began streaming on Netflix in January 2026 before opening theatrically on February 20. Although initially scheduled for just one week, demand was overwhelming — seats sold out the moment reservations opened — and the run extended all the way to June 18, accumulating 1.2 million admissions and over ¥2.5 billion at the box office.

Attendee Gifts by Format

Every ticket holder at the revival screenings will receive a free gift, varying by format:

• Standard / MX4D® / Dolby Atmos® — A newly drawn “Fanatic Omatsuri Girl” ensemble illustration board (A5 size), distributed September 18–24.
• 4DX — A paper clip (A6 size, clip diameter 40 mm) featuring the “ray Cho Kaguya-hime! Version” artwork. Exclusive to 4DX screenings.
• SCREENX / ULTRA 4DX — A gold-foil sticker (approx. 100×75 mm) decorated with a scene cut from “ray Cho Kaguya-hime! Version.” Exclusive to SCREENX and ULTRA 4DX screenings.

New Theater Merchandise

From September 18, new goods will go on sale at screening venues and the official online store. The lineup includes items featuring Kaguya, Sakayori Ayaha, and Tsukimi Yachiyo dressed in the newly illustrated “Fanatic Omatsuri Girl” costumes, as well as products using scene cuts and the “ray Cho Kaguya-hime! Version” visuals.

Official History Book

A special theater pamphlet titled Cho Kaguya-hime! Official History Book will also go on sale on September 18 at screening venues and through Shochiku’s official online shop “松竹ストア anime Froovie / アニメフルービー.” The book compiles the original early-development proposal documents, rare storyboards, and a chronicle of the project’s music videos, tracing the full journey of the film from conception to screen.

Post-Credits Music Video Screenings

The fan-favorite tradition of screening a music video after the main feature will continue, with the selection depending on format:

Tsukuyomi Photo-Spot Drink Cup Holder

To commemorate the revival, T-Joy cinemas and other participating venues nationwide will sell an original “Tsukuyomi Photo-Spot Drink Cup Holder” priced at ¥1,800 (tax included) at T-Joy locations. Two designs are available — “Tsukuyomi ver.” and “Shinsen ver.” — and each comes with a randomly selected acrylic stand featuring Tsukuyomi’s torii gate, available in 8 varieties. Sales begin September 18, 2026, with no set end date. Availability and pricing at non-T-Joy venues should be confirmed directly with each theater.
