Sousou no Frieren (葬送のフリーレン) is making waves once again with a collaboration alongside the Vermeer: Girl with a Pearl Earring Exhibition (フェルメール《真珠の耳飾りの少女》展). A newly drawn illustration has been unveiled on the official X account, drawing an outpouring of praise from fans, while a range of exclusive collab merchandise is set to go on sale across Japan.
About Sousou no Frieren
Sousou no Frieren is a manga serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday, written by Yamada Kanehito and illustrated by Abe Tsukasa. Set in a world after a brave hero and his party have defeated the Demon King, the story follows Frieren — an elven mage who has lived for over a millennium — as she embarks on a new journey and encounters new companions.
The TV anime’s first season aired from September 2023 to March 2024, while Season 2, which broadcast in early 2026, dominated streaming charts and trended on X every week. Immediately after the Season 2 finale, Season 3 — the “Golden Land Arc” (黄金郷編) — was announced for broadcast on Nippon TV in October 2027, sending fans into a frenzy worldwide.
A Masterpiece Meets a Masterpiece
The collab illustration, drawn by series artist Abe Tsukasa, reimagines Frieren dressed in the iconic costume from Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, while Fern appears beside her holding a picture frame.
When the illustration was posted on the official X account, fans flooded the comments with admiration:

Collab Goods & Book Fair Details
Starting July 20, 2026, a related book fair will be held at over 270 bookstores nationwide in Japan. Exclusive exhibition goods and Sousou no Frieren collab merchandise will go on sale at 80 bookstores across the country.
