The official website for ghost – end of night (Japanese title: ghost/yoru no hate), the upcoming theatrical anime from director Shingo Natsume and studio Madhouse, has revealed three new cast members for the film.
Newly Announced Cast
- Kenjirō Tsuda as Moby Dick, a man who takes an interest in Neekei
- Hiroki Yasumoto as Karate, Masu’s childhood friend and a section manager at the observatory where Neekei works
- Hiroshi Kamiya as Itō, Masu’s childhood friend and the observatory’s mental coach
The previously announced main cast includes Mayu Hotta as protagonist Neekei and Issei Takahashi as Masu.
Story
Bandai Namco Filmworks describes the film as follows: set in a near future where labor is no longer necessary, the story follows Neekei, a girl who keeps searching for what is truly “real” while resisting the complacency of a content society.
Staff and Production
Shingo Natsume — known for ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept., One-Punch Man, Sonny Boy, and Space Dandy — both directs and writes the script at Madhouse. This marks his first time helming an original anime film. Natsume has stated his aim is to create “a work that could be called fictional but is in tune with our current time and seeks realism.”
Manga creator Natsume Ono (ACCA 13-Territory Inspection Department, Ristorante Paradiso, House of Five Leaves, Not Simple) is responsible for the original character designs, while Norifumi Kugai (ACCA, Sonny Boy) handles the animation character designs. Bandai Namco Filmworks is distributing the film.
Alternative rock band hitsujibungaku will perform the film’s theme song and also contribute the insert song “Sugar.”
Release and Manga Adaptation
The film is scheduled to open in Japan on February 11, 2027. It has already screened at GKIDS, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and Variety’s Animation is Film Festival, which ran October 16–19.
A manga adaptation drawn by artist himiko launched in Kadokawa’s Young Ace magazine on August 4.
