โปสเตอร์ภาพยนตร์ Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust และ 5 Centimeters per Second ฉบับคนแสดงสด

GKIDS announced on Saturday that it has acquired North American distribution rights to two highly anticipated titles: the anime film Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust and the live-action adaptation of Makoto Shinkai’s beloved anime 5 Centimeters per Second.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

GKIDS describes the film: After a young woman is seemingly abducted by the vampire Baron Meier Link, her father hires D — a vampire-hunting “Dunpeal” — to rescue her. As D rides across the wastelands, he must compete against a group of tough mercenary hunters and confront the complex truth about the woman.

The film was directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri at Madhouse, and is based on the novels by Hideyuki Kikuchi, which previously inspired the original 1985 OVA before the Bloodlust theatrical film arrived in 2000. Urban Vision released the film on DVD and VHS in 2002, while Discotek Media issued a DVD and Blu-ray release in 2015.

The 1985 OVA received a Blu-ray release from Sentai Filmworks in August 2025, and was screened at 40th anniversary events through Anime Expo’s AX Cinema Nights program in April 2025. HIDIVE and Shudder began streaming the OVA in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand in May 2025.

Live-Action 5 Centimeters per Second

GKIDS describes the live-action film: After transferring to the same elementary school, Takaki and Akari became best friends. However, their lives change when both their families are forced to relocate. After a year of separation, Takaki is about to reunite with Akari. As he sits on the train from Tokyo, memories of the past rush through his head. The story unfolds across three interconnected tales of love and lost innocence.

SixTONES member Hokuto Matsumura — known to anime fans as the voice of Sōta Munakata in Suzume — stars in the film. Yoshiyuki Okuyama directed from a script by Ayako Suzuki, with music composed by Ayatake Ezaki. Kenshi Yonezu performs the theme song “1991.” Spoon produced the film, with TOHO handling distribution.

The original 5 Centimeters per Second anime opened in Japan in 2007. Makoto Shinkai directed, wrote, and storyboarded the film, also serving as sound director, producer, and art director, with music by Tenmon.
