Mobile Suit Gundam (機動戦士ガンダム) is collaborating with Honpindo (本品堂), an Asakusa-based fabric brand rooted in centuries-old Japanese craft, to release a kata-zome (型染め) stencil-dyeing collection. The lineup features iconic designs based on the RX-78-2 Gundam, Char’s Zaku II, and Haro, and will be sold through the Gundam lifestyle label STRICT-G.
About the Collaboration
Honpindo traces its origins to Sarakei (更銈), a kata-zome dyeing workshop founded in the third year of the Keio era (1866) in Asakusa. The brand is known for preserving traditional Japanese hand-crafting techniques, producing textile goods that highlight the natural texture of fabric and charming hand-stenciled patterns. STRICT-G, Bandai’s Gundam-focused apparel and lifestyle shop, serves as the retail partner for this release.
Product Lineup
Moribukuro (守袋) Charm Pouches — ¥4,400
Available in three designs — Gundam, Char’s Zaku II, and Haro — these small pouches are modeled after the charm bags once carried by Edo-period townspeople. Today they make elegant holders for small valuables. Each comes packaged in a paulownia wood box (桐箱).
Gaisaibukuro (合財袋) Carry Pouches — ¥6,600
Also available in the same three designs, these larger pouches can be worn over the shoulder or used as an inner pouch inside a bag, making them a versatile everyday accessory.
Haro Edo Zabuton Cushion (本縫い小座布団 ハロ) — ¥11,000
The standout piece of the collection: a fully hand-sewn Edo-style sitting cushion (江戸座布団) shaped like Haro. Made with 100% cotton outer fabric and filling, it is crafted by skilled artisans to the standards of a genuine traditional Japanese cushion.
