The official website for Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO announced on Monday that the anime is set to launch in both North America and Japan in April 2027. The Japanese website uses the term hōsō (放送), which typically refers to a television broadcast.
Staff
Kenji Kamiyama — known for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eden of the East, and the Star Wars: Visions segment “The Ninth Jedi” — is directing the anime at Sola Animation. Author Toh Enjoe (The Ghost in the Shell 2026, Godzilla Singular Point, The Empire of Corpses) is collaborating on the world-building for the series’ science fiction setting.
Eiichi Shimizu (Linebarrels of Iron), creator of the 2011 Ultraman manga that Kamiyama previously adapted into anime, is designing the Gundam units. STATO drafted the original character designs, with Miyako Takasu adapting them for animation and serving as chief animation director. Gō Shiina — whose credits include Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, God Eater, and the Tales of Zestiria game — is composing the music. Joseph Chou and Yasufumi Kobashi are producing.
Cast
Takeo Ōtsuka voices Ray Azumi, described as “the permanently assigned pilot of the Gundam Zero and war orphan who lost his parents in an Apocalypse attack.”
The RG Project
The anime is part of the broader RG Project, described as “a next-generation Gundam initiative that expands the franchise into a new universe.” The project also includes the previously announced game Gundam Rogue Orbit, whose story is set 90 years after the events of the anime and is slated to debut in March 2027. Kamiyama teased at San Diego Comic-Con that the project encompasses elements beyond just the anime and the game. Notably, the “RG Project” name is unrelated to “Real Grade,” Bandai’s advanced tier of Gundam model kits.
