HarperCollins is preparing to make its move into the U.S. manga market with a new imprint under the name KAZÉ. According to a report by ICv2, the imprint will carry titles spanning a wide range of age groups, from children to adults.
Anime NYC Panel
KAZÉ will hold an industry panel at Anime NYC on Saturday, August 22, featuring editors Josh Sippie and Emilia Sowersby of KAZÉ US. The panel is described as offering a sneak peek at titles slated for release in 2027.
The History of KAZÉ
KAZÉ was originally founded in France in 1994. Shogakukan and Shueisha jointly acquired the company in 2009 and integrated it with Viz Media Europe. In December 2019, Crunchyroll became the majority owner of Viz Media Europe Group, which encompassed several subsidiaries including AV Visionen, Anime Versand, VIZ Media Switzerland, KAZÉ, KAZÉ Manga, Anime on Demand, and Anime Digital Network.
In July 2025, HarperCollins acquired Crunchyroll’s manga publishing operations in France and Germany, restoring the KAZÉ name in place of the Crunchyroll Manga brand. All ongoing series have continued without interruption or design changes, and releases from April 2026 onward now carry the KAZÉ branding.
HarperCollins and Japanese Fiction
HarperCollins has also been active in Japanese literature through its HarperVia imprint, which has previously published The Tatami Galaxy, The Tatami Time Machine Blues, and Park Seolyeon’s A Magical Girl Retires in English. In October 2024, HarperVia released Shion Miura‘s novel Run with the Wind (Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru). The publisher also has plans to release the late Saeko Himuro‘s Ocean Waves novel in English in March 2027.
