The Honey Lemon Soda Kanketsu Kinen-ten (Series Finale Commemorative Exhibition) opened its doors on September 11 and will run through September 30 at the Event Space on the 4th floor of Seibu Shibuya’s Building B in Tokyo.
A Decade-Long Story Brought to Life
Honey Lemon Soda, the manga by Mayu Murata serialized in Shueisha’s Ribon magazine for approximately ten and a half years, concluded in April of this year. The exhibition invites fans to relive the journey of Hanoka Ishimori — a high school girl determined to change herself — and Kai Miura, a boy with lemon-yellow hair, from their very first meeting through to graduation. The experience is brought to life through interactive themed zones and a display of roughly 90 pieces of original artwork, including both monochrome manuscript pages and color illustrations.
Zone-by-Zone Highlights
- ZONE 0 — “Story Entrance”: Visitors pass through the cherry-blossom-adorned gates of Yamitsu High School to enter the world of the manga, with a personal message from author Mayu Murata on display.
- ZONE 1–2 — “Hanoka’s Conflict” / “Change and Growth”: Dramatized displays cover the spring of freshman year — the pair’s first encounter and the moment Kai helps break the “curse” that has held Hanoka back.
- ZONE 3 — “Youth at Yamitsu High”: A recreation of the school’s cultural festival, complete with a classroom photo spot where visitors can capture memories just as Hanoka did with Kai and her classmates.
- ZONE 4–5 — “The Moment Feelings Are Shared” / “Each Person’s Love and Choices”: Highlights include memorable confession scenes and a photo spot recreating the moment Kai declared “Please go out with me” to Hanoka in front of the entire school assembly. Supporting characters — Ayumi and Satoru, Serina and Reo, and Sora — also receive dedicated attention.
- ZONE 6 — “As Many Memories, As Much Youth”: The finale area showcases a large collection of hand-drawn color originals, and a chalkboard installation lets visitors leave their own messages and memories alongside the graduating characters.
