Fans of 1990s anime are in for a treat: the Toei Animation Museum YouTube channel will begin streaming all 49 episodes of the classic TV anime Jigoku Sensei Nube (地獄先生ぬ～べ～) for free, starting July 20 at 7:00 p.m. JST, with new episodes released on a weekly schedule.
About the Series
Based on the manga by Sho Makura and Tsuyoshi Okano, the anime first aired in 1996 and follows Meisuke Nueno — known to his students as “Nube” — an elementary school teacher who harbours a demon sealed within his left hand. He uses that power to battle yokai and evil spirits threatening his pupils, in a story the creators describe as an “occult hero action” series blending supernatural horror with heartfelt drama.
The free streaming event is being held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the first TV anime. It also serves as a timely introduction for new viewers ahead of the brand-new TV anime adaptation currently in production for a 2025–2026 broadcast window.
Streaming Schedule
Episodes will be released in batches of 8 per week, with the final week delivering 9 episodes to complete the full run of 49. Further scheduling details will be announced via the official Toei Animation Museum X (Twitter) account.
