NBC Universal released a 30-second commercial for the second season of the anime based on Shigeru Sagazaki’s light novel Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru. The ad reveals the season’s ending theme, “Mikansei” or “Unfinished,” by BLUE ENCOUNT.
The anime will stream exclusively worldwide on Amazon Prime Video starting July 9 at 00:15 JST, equivalent to July 8 at 11:15 a.m. EDT. The opening theme remains “Kurenai no Ha” by the rock band Unicorn.

Story
Beryl Gardinant, a middle-aged man who insists he is only a simple country swordsman, lives quietly as a sword instructor in a remote village. One day, a former student brings life-changing news: he has been appointed special instructor to the knights of the Liberion Order. In the capital, he reunites with former pupils who have become elite knights, master mages, and top-ranked adventurers, all of whom still seek his guidance.
Original Work and Manga
The light novels by Shigeru Sagazaki began on Shosetsuka ni Naro in November 2020, with illustrations by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima and print publication by Square Enix. J-Novel Club and Yen Press handle English releases. A manga adaptation by Kazuki Sato began in Akita Shoten’s Dokodemo Young Champion in August 2021, and Yen Press releases it in English.
The franchise also has two manga spin-offs: Hajimari no Maho Kenshi by Megumu Soramichi and Ryusoken no Kiseki by Sasami Hazama. The first anime season premiered in April 2025 and also streamed exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
