Manga artist Kira Takashi, creator of Akari Elegy (赤灯えれじい), is set to appear on the BS TV Tokyo programme Manga Crystal (漫画クリスタル) in the episode airing on November 4.
About Manga Crystal
Manga Crystal airs every Wednesday at 24:30 (excluding the final week of each month). Hosted by comedian Noda Crystal of Magical Love Lovely, the show explores manga from a deeper perspective befitting its satellite broadcast platform, welcoming a different guest each week.
November 4 Episode: Spotlight on Akari Elegy
The November 4 episode puts the spotlight on Akari Elegy, which is currently being adapted into a drama series airing on both TV Tokyo and BS TV Tokyo. The manga follows the pure-hearted but hopelessly timid Satoshi and the quick-tempered blonde delinquent girl Chiiko in a clumsy romantic comedy set in Osaka.
Kira Takashi will discuss the origins of the series as well as more personal anecdotes. Comedian Takano Masashige of the duo Kishitakano will also appear, joining in on a lively conversation about the romantic struggles of awkward, timid men — a theme central to the manga.
Tamura Mayu (Nogizaka46) as November’s Monthly Narrator
Each month, Manga Crystal invites a different manga-loving celebrity to handle narration duties. For November, that role goes to Tamura Mayu of idol group Nogizaka46. She will share her passion for manga and introduce works that have had a meaningful impact on her life.
Comment from Kira Takashi
I was nervous at first, but as I talked with Noda Crystal and Takano, I gradually relaxed — and before I knew it, the mood had turned into something like a couple of guys who aren’t great with women chatting at an izakaya. It was a lot of fun, though I’m a little embarrassed looking back. Noda did a great job steering the conversation back to Akari Elegy at just the right moments, and Takano’s reactions were a blast. I also got to talk about the feelings I put into specific scenes in the original manga, so please do tune in if you’re interested.
Comment from Tamura Mayu (Nogizaka46)
When I first got the offer, my honest reaction was, “Are you sure you want me?” (laughs). I haven’t had many chances to do narration work before, so I gave it everything I had while keeping an eye on the timing. I stumbled a few times, but the staff kept smiling throughout, which made it a really enjoyable experience. I genuinely love manga, so being able to take part in this programme as a narrator made me incredibly happy!!
