Netflix has released a fresh batch of scene cuts from its upcoming original series Kokumin Quiz, shining a spotlight on K井K一, the charismatic national quiz-show host played by Yamada Takayuki.
About the Series
Based on the manga by Sugimoto Reiichi (story) and Kato Shinkichi (art), published by Ota Publishing, the series is set in a version of Japan where a new law has been enacted: anyone who survives to win the massively popular national quiz program — Kokumin Quiz — is entitled to have any wish granted by the government. All 8 episodes will be available exclusively worldwide on Netflix from December 17, 2026.
New Scene Cuts
The newly released images capture several striking moments for K井: gripping his host’s microphone with an intense, almost haunting expression; standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Prime Minister Gokumazawa — played by Ishibashi Renji — waving to the crowd; and dazzling in an extravagant costume as he performs an eccentric dance alongside a troupe of dancers.
Director Yoshida Teruyuki offered high praise for Yamada’s performance:
“What makes Kokumin Quiz unique and compelling is that the protagonist is not a contestant but the host. That connects to the series’ overall quality of constantly defying the audience’s expectations. For an actor, playing a host who must ‘keep the show moving without pouring personal emotion into the lines’ is extremely difficult. In that regard, Yamada-san was truly outstanding.”
