The TV anime Magic Knight Rayearth (魔法騎士レイアース) will begin broadcasting on October 7, 2026, airing every Wednesday at 11:45 p.m. on TV Asahi’s nationwide “IMAnimation W” block for a consecutive two-cour run. The announcement came alongside the release of the second main PV and full theme-song details at a stage event held during Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2026 (Kyomaf) in Kyoto. Voice actors Sakura Ayane, Okubo Rumi, Takahashi Rie, and Kaji Yuki attended the event in person.

About the Series

Magic Knight Rayearth is one of the signature works of the creative collective CLAMP, originally serialized in Kodansha’s Nakayoshi magazine. A previous TV anime adaptation aired from 1994 to 1995; this new production marks a full revival more than 30 years later. The series is directed by Miura Yui, with animation produced by E&H production.

Story

Three second-year middle-school students — Shidou Hikaru, Ryuuzaki Umi, and Houoji Fu — are suddenly summoned to the alternate world of Cephiro while on a field trip to Tokyo Tower. There they learn that Princess Emeraude, who has long protected Cephiro’s peace through the power of prayer, has been taken captive and the world is in crisis. Summoned by the princess herself, the three girls must rise to become the legendary Magic Knights and save both her and the world.

Opening Theme: 「乙女の剣」(Otome no Ken) by Toaka (EMI Records / Universal Music)

Ending Theme: 「星灯」(Hoshiakari) by Kawaguchi Yurina (Universal Music)

Artist Comments

Toaka (Opening Theme): “I poured the pure, straightforward feelings of the protagonists into ‘Otome no Ken.’ They suddenly find themselves bearing the fate of the world, yet they keep their heads up and never stop facing what lies ahead. I wanted to deliver that strong, unwavering gaze through my voice — and I hope my music can be something that supports them and gives them a little push forward.”

Kawaguchi Yurina (Ending Theme): “As a fan of the original work, my heart races knowing that a new door is opening for this long-beloved series. I feel it holds both the warmth of sunlight and the vast, deep pull of the ocean floor. I sang with those feelings close to my heart, and I hope listeners can savor the lingering emotion of each episode together with ‘Hoshiakari.'”

New Cast Comments

Noto Mamiko (Alcyone): “I am deeply honored to be part of this production. Alcyone’s desperate search for love is both touching and heartbreaking, yet she is beautifully enveloped by the stunning visuals. I found myself drawn in even during the sad and painful scenes. I’m already looking forward to seeing how everything comes together when the series airs.”

Murase Ayumu (Ascot): “I first learned about this series back in voice-acting school, where many classmates would sing songs from it at karaoke. Reading the original manga before my audition, I felt a beauty and brilliance that never fades no matter the era. I’m thrilled to be part of such a classic work, and I hope everyone looks forward to Ascot’s role in the story.”

Ueda Hitomi (Caldina): “I grew up watching and reading CLAMP’s works, so being able to appear in the Reiwa-era Magic Knight Rayearth as Caldina fills me with both immense happiness and a deep sense of responsibility. I faced the role seriously and gave it everything I had.”

Yasumoto Hiroki (Lafarga): “This was the anime that aired during Monday prime time — a truly powerful work. Beyond the nostalgia, I feel joy and a sense of mission. Because this is a series that so many people love dearly, I will give it everything I have.”
