Crunchyroll announced that the television anime adaptation of Haka Tokura‘s light novel series Magical Buffs: The Support Caster is Stronger Than He Realized! will hold its world premiere at Anime NYC on August 22, with the first two episodes screening at the event.
The series is set to begin its broadcast run in January, airing on Tokyo MX, MBS, BS11, and more than 17 other channels across Japan. It will also be available to stream on Netflix.
Story
Granting caster Wim Strauss has always excelled at supporting his teammates — but when his abilities wound the pride of his party’s leader, he finds himself booted from the group. His fortunes soon change, however, when his childhood friend (and self-proclaimed stalker) Heidemarie invites him to join Nachtlibelle, one of the most prestigious guilds in the land. His skills may lack flashiness, but surrounded by his new eccentric crew, Wim just might prove that the supporting role can steal the show.

Staff
Hideki Okamoto (2.5 Dimensional Seduction, D.C. II: Da Capo II) is directing the anime at J.C. Staff. Takao Yoshioka (Aharen-san wa Hakarenai, High School DxD, I’m Standing on 1,000,000 Lives.) is handling series composition, while Yu Murakami is designing the characters based on Eiri Shirai‘s original novel illustrations.
The music is composed by Yūki Hayashi (Haikyu!!, My Hero Academia, Observation Records of My Fiancée), Luke Standridge, and Asa Taylor. Yoshikazu Iwanami is serving as sound director, and Ryō Aizawa (Aharen-san wa Hakarenai, Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It) is producing the project.
Background
Tokura originally launched the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō web platform in November 2020. Arakawa’s manga adaptation began serialization on the Manga ga Ugau app in September 2021. Futabasha released the 11th compiled light novel volume on April 30. Seven Seas Entertainment holds the English-language license for both the light novel series and its manga adaptation.
