A special stage event for the theatrical anime Mahoutsukai no Yoru (魔法使いの夜) was held on August 1 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, as part of the Fate/Grand Order 11th anniversary celebration 「Fate/Grand Order Fes. 2026 カルデア学園祭 ～11th Anniversary～」, running August 1–2.

Taking the stage were Tomatsu Haruka (Aozaki Aoko), Kobayashi Yusuke (Shizuki Soujuurou), and Hanazawa Kana (Kuonji Alice). It marked Hanazawa’s first appearance at any Mahoutsukai no Yoru stage event, and the first time all three cast members have appeared together at a public event.

First Impressions of Their Characters

The trio were asked about their feelings when they first voiced their characters in the original game. Since the remastered version featured an entirely new cast, both Tomatsu and Hanazawa admitted feeling a strong sense of responsibility. Kobayashi recalled that he watched game footage complete with backgrounds and music before recording, which made the experience feel more like performing a staged reading than a typical voice recording session.

Audition Stories and Laughs

The conversation touched on the release date announcement event held on July 7. Tomatsu, who had appeared at that event, reflected on the immense energy from the fans in attendance and said it made her feel the true scale of the project.

Hanazawa shared a charming anecdote about her audition: when she asked the staff why she had been chosen, she was told her image matched that of someone speaking quietly and sparsely in a large mansion. The answer drew chuckles from part of the audience, leaving Hanazawa visibly puzzled. Kobayashi playfully pressured the laughing audience members, insisting that Hanazawa was a perfect fit for Alice.

Character Impressions

When asked about their impressions of their respective characters, Tomatsu described Aoko as a strong woman, exactly as her visuals suggest, and said she had been thinking since the game about how to portray that strength. Hanazawa called Alice mysterious and powerful, noting that because the character is normally quiet, she paid careful attention to the forcefulness of Alice’s lines during battle scenes.

Kobayashi deadpanned that Soujuurou is just an ordinary high school student — earning skeptical looks from his co-stars. He elaborated that because Soujuurou grew up in an unusual environment, he is easily surprised by small things, and that finding the right level for those reactions was a challenge. He ultimately decided not to over-interpret the character and simply followed the direction of original author Nasu Kinoko, describing Soujuurou as a character who is difficult to pin down.

New Visuals — and a Missing Soujuurou

The event’s biggest moment came with the reveal of two new key visuals: one featuring Aoko standing before the manor, and another depicting both Aoko and Alice. The hall erupted in cheers — but Kobayashi was busy desperately scanning the images for Soujuurou, who appeared in neither. He wistfully asked for a visual featuring Soujuurou and a mountain cabin. Tomatsu and Hanazawa tried to “help” by searching the trees in the background for a hidden Soujuurou, sending the audience into fits of laughter.

Further announcements followed, including details on advance ticket (mubichike) bonuses and the launch of a smartphone version of Mahoutsukai no Yoru, both of which drew enthusiastic responses from the crowd.

Panel Poses and Closing Remarks

When a large theater display panel — the kind that will be installed at screening venues — was brought onstage, the cast gathered around it with great interest. Tomatsu immediately struck the same pose as Aoko in the panel.

In their closing remarks, Kobayashi said he approached the recording with care while also bringing a sense of playfulness befitting a theatrical release. He also sheepishly admitted he loves the film’s music so much that he uses the main theme as his alarm tone. Hanazawa noted the film’s mix of intense action and quiet scenes, joking that popcorn might be hard to eat. She also suggested a fun photo pose with the theater panel: hold a plastic folder above Aoko’s head to make it look like she’s generating static electricity — drawing more laughs from the crowd.

Tomatsu closed by saying she can feel the release date approaching, and encouraged fans to sit back, enjoy a cup of tea, and take in the film when it opens.
