NBC Universal has announced three additional cast members for the television anime adaptation of My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren’t Wicked (Ibitte Konai Gibo to Gishi), based on the manga by Otsuji. The newly revealed characters are set to make their first appearances in the anime’s ninth episode, airing this Wednesday.

The anime is produced at NEWON under the direction of Keisuke Inoue, known for My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!, Ao-chan Can’t Study!, and Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero. Nanami Hoshino, who has worked on Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable! and episode scripts for Mission: Yozakura Family, is handling series composition. Mutsumi Sasaki, whose credits include Chaos;HEAd, Laid-Back Camp, and Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~, serves as character designer and chief animation director.
Theme Songs
Lia performs the opening theme “Amayadori no Shōkei” (Longing to Take Shelter From the Rain), while AVAM performs the ending theme “Claire.”
Story
Miya is the illegitimate child of a prominent family. After her mother’s death, she is taken in by her father’s household, fully expecting a life of misery under a cruel stepmother and stepsisters — only to discover that the women she feared are actually warm and kind. The series is a hilarious, heartfelt comedic reimagining of the classic Cinderella story.
About the Manga
Otsuji’s manga has been serialized in Ichijinsha’s Comic POOL digital magazine since November 2020. The 10th compiled volume was released on August 25. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the manga in English, with the eighth volume released on June 23.
