The beloved anime series Natsume’s Book of Friends (夏目友人帳) has teamed up with Japanese credit card issuer Epos Card to launch a collaborative card, the “Natsume’s Book of Friends Epos Card,” with applications opening on Friday, June 12, 2026.
About Natsume’s Book of Friends
Based on the manga by Yuki Midorikawa, serialized in Hakusensha’s Monthly LaLa magazine with cumulative sales exceeding 18 million copies, Natsume’s Book of Friends began airing on TV Tokyo in 2008. The series follows Takashi Natsume, a boy who has always been able to see spirits, as he inherits his late grandmother Reiko’s “Book of Friends” — a ledger binding the names of youkai — and works alongside the self-proclaimed bodyguard Nyanko-sensei to return those names. The anime celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2023, and its seventh season, Natsume’s Book of Friends: Shichi (夏目友人帳 漆), aired in October 2024.
Two Exclusive Card Designs
Cardholders can choose from two designs:
- “Nyanko-sensei and Hanatebako” — A specially drawn-down design created in collaboration with Sumioka Kyodo Gangu Seisakusho, the workshop behind the hanatebako, a traditional toy representative of Kumamoto Prefecture. This design includes the card’s donation feature.
- “SOUND THEATRE～音劇の章 夏霞～” — Features the key visual from the musical reading performance SOUND THEATRE × Natsume’s Book of Friends ～Ongeki no Sho: Natsugasumi～, which is returning to the stage for the first time in approximately eight years.
Spending Supports Kumamoto Disaster Recovery
For the “Nyanko-sensei and Hanatebako” design, 0.1% of every purchase will be donated to Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture — the real-world model location for the series — to support reconstruction and environmental conservation efforts following the devastating floods of July 2020. The standard Epos point reward rate remains 1 point per ¥200 spent (0.5% return rate).
Welcome Gift for New Members
New applicants or cardholders who switch to the Natsume’s Book of Friends Epos Card and spend a cumulative total of ¥100,000 (tax included) within three months will receive a hanatebako-style gamaguchi clasp pouch as a non-sale commemorative gift.
Pop-Up Shop Tour at Five Locations
To celebrate the card’s debut, a POP UP SHOP will tour five locations, starting at Yurakucho Marui. The event will feature merchandise using the newly drawn illustrations, a purchase lottery, and standing panel displays — a must-visit for fans of the series.
