Wright Film announced on Sunday that Shiba Inu Rooms (Shiba-tsuki Bukken), the manga by Esu Omori, is receiving a television anime adaptation slated to debut in summer 2027. The announcement was timed to November 1, celebrated in Japan as “Wan Wan Wan Day” — a playful nod to “wan” (ワン), the Japanese equivalent of a dog’s bark.
Staff and Cast
Osamu Yamasaki is directing the series at TMS Entertainment, with Rio — known for character design work on trapezium and Sorcerous Stabber Orphen -Chaos in Urbanrama- — handling character designs. Esu Omori also drew a commemorative illustration to mark the occasion. A voice cast has been announced alongside the production reveal.
Story
The series centers on Kori, a high school student who moves into a new apartment only to discover it is haunted by Mu, the ghost of a Shiba Inu. The two are polar opposites — like fire and ice — and the story follows whether they can learn to coexist, or perhaps even become friends.
Manga Background and Licensing
The manga began as a one-shot in 2023 before launching as an ongoing serialization on Shonen Jump+ in June 2024. Shueisha is set to release the ninth compiled volume on November 4.
Internationally, Viz Media licensed the manga for digital release in January 2025 and announced a print edition in February 2026, with the first physical volume shipping on September 1. The series is also available digitally in English through the MANGA Plus app.
