The TV anime Shin Oishinbo (新 美味しんぼ), based on the manga by Kariya Tetsu and Hanasaki Akira, has officially announced its main voice cast. The new series is scheduled to broadcast in 2027, marking 35 years since the previous anime adaptation concluded.
Main Cast
Azaue Yohei will voice protagonist Yamaoka Shiro, while Sakisaki Hitomi takes on the role of Kurita Yuko. Most notably, Otsuka Akio will portray the formidable Kaibara Yuzan — inheriting the role from his late father, Otsuka Chikao, who voiced the character in the original series.
A first teaser visual has also been unveiled, depicting Yamaoka Shiro from behind, suit jacket slung over one shoulder as he waves with his characteristic carefree attitude.
About the Series
“Oishinbo” follows an intense culinary rivalry between the “Ultimate Menu” project of the Tozai Shimbunsha newspaper and the “Supreme Menu” championed by Kaibara Yuzan. The new production is being made to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Shin-Ei Animation.

Azaue Yohei (Yamaoka Shiro)
Shiro appears lazy and unremarkable on the surface, yet he holds a passion and philosophy for food that surpasses anyone else’s. He harbors resentment toward Yuzan, yet has also inherited much from him. I search for his true essence with every episode, like wandering the streets looking for somewhere good to eat tonight. Perhaps Kurita-san is the compass that guides him.
Having watched the original TV anime series myself as a fan, I feel the full weight of stepping into the role of Yamaoka Shiro. I want as many people as possible to rediscover the appeal of this work — savoring it just like the natural flavor of quality ingredients.
Sakisaki Hitomi (Kurita Yuko)
My first impression was of a cheerful, dependable young woman. But as I got deeper into the role, I found she has a surprisingly sharp tongue that comes out quite naturally — and I think that’s part of what makes her so charming among such a colorful cast of characters.
On set, I was surrounded by people who are genuine fans of “Oishinbo” — everyone was buzzing about their favorite scenes and lines. It was a recording environment overflowing with love for the series, and I’m so excited to deliver “Shin Oishinbo” to audiences while honoring the spirit of the original.
Otsuka Akio (Kaibara Yuzan)
Hello, it’s Otsuka Akio. I’m playing Kaibara Yuzan. Yes, again. Taking over again. You’re probably thinking “again?!” — and yes, again! I’m half-tempted to just change my name to Otsuka Chikao at this point. Anyway, he was already a stubborn, overbearing father back in the day, but watching it now he’s on another level entirely — an absolute king of self-importance. It’s a tough role to navigate in today’s climate, but I’ll give it everything I’ve got. Please look forward to it!
To all “Oishinbo” fans — we’re back! With a fully refreshed cast, we’re all fired up. I’m not sure how far we can push the more extreme expressions, but that was never the goal. If we can preserve the flavor of the original while expressing a modern kind of deliciousness — and make you hungry just from watching — that’s everything.
