The highly anticipated TV anime Shin Oishinbo (新 美味しんぼ) has released a brand-new teaser PV — and for the first time, fans can hear the voices of the main cast: Yohei Azaue, Hitomi Sakisaki, and Akio Ohtsuka. A set of preview scene stills from the anime was also unveiled alongside the video.
A Legendary Food Manga Returns After 35 Years
Oishinbo is the iconic food manga created by writer Tetsu Kariya and illustrator Akira Hanasaki, serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits. With cumulative sales exceeding 135 million copies, the series became a cultural phenomenon across the Showa and Heisei eras through both live-action and anime adaptations. Now, 35 years after the previous anime series concluded, the franchise returns as a full-fledged sequel — Shin Oishinbo — produced by Shin-Ei Animation, set to broadcast in 2027.
Story and Main Characters
The new series picks up the fierce culinary battle between the “Ultimate Menu” (究極のメニュー) championed by the Tozai Shimbun and the “Supreme Menu” (至高のメニュー) led by Yuzan Kaibara, preserving the vibrant energy of the 1990s while unfolding fresh storylines. Adding to the drama is a love triangle involving Shiro Yamaoka, Yuko Kurita, and Ichiro Dan — the young president of Daikensha who serves as the arbiter of the culinary contest and falls for Kurita at first sight.
- Shiro Yamaoka (山岡士郎) — A Tozai Shimbun cultural reporter who appears lazy on the surface but possesses extraordinary culinary knowledge; assigned to lead the “Ultimate Menu” project. Voiced by Yohei Azaue.
- Yuko Kurita (栗田ゆう子) — A fellow cultural reporter who partners with Yamaoka on the “Ultimate Menu.” Voiced by Hitomi Sakisaki.
- Yuzan Kaibara (海原雄山) — Yamaoka’s biological father; a legendary gourmet and proprietor of the ultra-exclusive members-only restaurant “Bishoku Club.” Voiced by Akio Ohtsuka.
What’s in the Teaser PV
The new teaser showcases mouth-watering food animation — wisps of steam rising from dishes and sizzling grilled meats — alongside scenes of Yamaoka and Kurita tirelessly pursuing the “Ultimate Menu.” Kaibara laughs triumphantly, declaring “The Ultimate Menu is finished,” while a fired-up Yamaoka vows that as long as the contest continues, he still has a chance to prove himself to his father. The clip makes it impossible to look away from the unfolding “Ultimate vs. Supreme” showdown.
Scene Stills
The newly released scene photos include a sharp-eyed Yamaoka sizing up his opponent, a composed and dignified Kurita, and an imposing Kaibara radiating overwhelming presence — as well as a tense face-off scene with both sides gathered together, all hinting at the heated drama ahead.
