The Tokyo Anime Award Festival (TAAF) has announced it will cease operations, bringing to a close an independent festival that launched in 2014 and ran for 13 editions. TAAF itself evolved from the Tokyo Anime Award, which was held as part of the Tokyo International Anime Fair from 2002 to 2013.

TAAF’s X (formerly Twitter) account and YouTube channel will both shut down on September 30. The festival’s official website will transition into an archival site from the same date onward.
Final Award Recipients
In its farewell edition, the Anime of the Year — Best Sound/Performance award went to artist Kenshi Yonezu, recognized for four anime theme song contributions over the past year:
- “Plazma” from Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX
- “Bow and Arrow” from Medalist
- “Iris Out” and “Jane Doe” from Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, with “Jane Doe” being a collaboration with Hikaru Utada
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX took the television category prize, while Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle — Akaza Sairai, the first film in the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle trilogy, claimed the animated film category.
Eligible titles were those that debuted in whole or in part between October 1, 2024 and September 30, 2025.
