The staff behind the second television anime season of The Elusive Samurai (Nigejōzu no Wakagimi), based on Yūsei Matsui‘s manga, announced on Friday that Niina Hanamiya is joining the cast as Mima.
Broadcast & Streaming
The new season began airing on July 17 at 11:30 p.m. on Fuji TV within the Noitamina programming block, with additional broadcasts on AT-X. In Japan, the series is also available on Amazon Prime Video and other streaming services. Crunchyroll is streaming the series simultaneously worldwide.
Staff & Production
CloverWorks returns as the producing studio. Yuta Yamazaki — assistant director on Wonder Egg Priority and series director of both Love Rice seasons — is back in the director’s chair for season 2. Yasushi Nishiya, known as chief animation director on Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us and Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!, also returns to handle character design and takes on the new role of chief animation director. Shinnosuke Ōta serves as animation director, while GEMBI and Akiyuki Tateyama compose the score.

Season 1 & Manga Background
The anime’s first season debuted in July 2024, with Crunchyroll streaming it as it aired and also offering an English dub. The manga was written and drawn by Yūsei Matsui — the creator of Majin Tantei Nōgami Neuro and Assassination Classroom — and ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from January 2021 until its conclusion on February 16. It won the 69th Shogakukan Manga Awards in 2024. Viz Media publishes the manga in print in English, while MANGA Plus released new chapters digitally in English simultaneously with Japan.
Story Synopsis
After the massacre of his family by the traitor Ashikaga Takauji, Tokiyuki flees with the help of a handful of loyal retainers who survived the purge. Among them is Suwa Yorishige, lord of Suwa Province and ally of the Hojo clan, who claims to be clairvoyant and foretells that Tokiyuki will one day rule Japan. For now, however, escaping enemy territory is the only priority.
