The production team behind the second television anime season of The Elusive Samurai (Nigejōzu no Wakagimi), based on Yūsei Matsui‘s manga, has released the season’s main promotional video, revealing the opening theme song, full cast, staff lineup, and an official premiere date.
Opening Theme & Premiere Date
The promo announces “Onigoto” (Demon Occurrences) by Kento Nakajima as the opening theme, with a preview of the track featured in the video itself.
Season 2 premieres on July 17 at 11:30 p.m. JST on Fuji TV‘s Noitamina programming block, with a simulcast on AT-X. Prime Video will handle streaming.

Studio CloverWorks returns to produce the season. Yuta Yamazaki — assistant director on Wonder Egg Priority and series director on both Love Rice entries — is back in the director’s chair. Yasushi Nishiya, who served as chief animation director on Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us and Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!, returns to handle character design and takes on the additional role of chief animation director. Shinnosuke Ōta serves as animation director, and music is composed by GEMBI and Akiyuki Tateyama.

Story
After his family is massacred by the traitor Ashikaga Takauji, young Tokiyuki flees with a small band of loyal retainers. Among them is Suwa Yorishige, lord of Suwa Province, who claims to possess the gift of clairvoyance and prophesies that Tokiyuki will one day rule all of Japan — but first, escaping enemy territory is the immediate priority.
Background
The first season aired in July 2024, streamed by Crunchyroll with an English dub also available. It re-aired on Fuji TV’s Noitamina block in April 2026 ahead of Season 2’s debut.
Matsui — known for Majin Tantei Nōgami Neuro and Assassination Classroom — launched the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in January 2021; it concluded on February 16. The series won at the 69th Shogakukan Manga Awards in 2024. Viz Media publishes the manga in print and digitally in English, while MANGA Plus also offers simultaneous digital chapters.
