TMS Entertainment announced on Monday that it will stream Lupin III vs. Detective Conan The Movie for free on its official YouTube channel in an English-dubbed version, beginning October 24 for a limited time. Separately, Netflix has announced that a fourth specially curated selection of Detective Conan (Case Closed) anime episodes will begin streaming on November 1.
About Lupin III vs. Detective Conan The Movie
TMS Entertainment describes the film’s story: Kid the Phantom Thief has pulled off yet another diamond heist — but this time something is off. Not only does Kid use a real gun, he also makes his getaway aboard a yakatabune houseboat. While Conan gives chase, Goemon Ishikawa XIII slices his skateboard clean in two, and it is only then that Conan realizes the Kid standing before him is actually Lupin the 3rd in disguise.
Release History
The crossover film — bringing together Monkey Punch‘s Lupin III and Gōshō Aoyama‘s Detective Conan — opened in Japanese theaters in December 2013. A television special crossover between the two franchises had previously aired in 2009.
Discotek released the film on Blu-ray Disc with an English dub featuring the “classic” Lupin the 3rd English cast alongside the newer theatrical movie cast for Detective Conan. Discotek had earlier released the film on DVD in Japanese with English subtitles in 2015, and also released the television special on home video with an English dub.
About Detective Conan
Gōshō Aoyama launched the Detective Conan manga in Shogakukan‘s Weekly Shounen Sunday magazine in 1994. The series has been adapted into a long-running television anime since January 1996, as well as an annual theatrical film series. Viz Media publishes the manga in English under the title Case Closed — the localized name originally coined by Funimation — using Funimation’s English character names where applicable and the original Japanese names otherwise.
The story follows Conan Edogawa, the alias of teenage detective Shinichi Kudo, whose body was shrunk after he was poisoned early in the story. Living with detective Kogoro Mori and his daughter Ran, Conan works behind the scenes to help the police crack difficult cases.
