NBC Universal announced on Saturday that the second season of the television anime adaptation of Masakuni Igarashi‘s manga Tune In to the Midnight Heart (Mayonaka Heart Tune) is set to premiere in 2027. The announcement came alongside a new visual, confirmation of the largely returning staff, and the reveal of additional cast members.
New Cast Members
- Ami Koshimizu as Riina Yamabuki, Arisu’s older sister and the eldest daughter of the Yamabuki family, who has a complex about her short stature.
- Kaede Hondo as Mito Yamabuki, Arisu’s younger sister, described as cheerful and easygoing — a stark contrast to her hot-tempered older sister and eccentric older brother.
Returning Staff
Masayuki Takahashi (Butareba: The Story of a Man Turned into a Pig) returns to direct at studio Gekkō, with Yukie Sugawara (Overlord) back to oversee and write the series scripts. Tomoyuki Shitaya (Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, Bakuman.) returns as character designer, and Kuniyuki Takahashi is once again composing the music.
One change in the crew is the color designer role: Akira Nagasaki, who handled color coordination in the first season, steps up to take the position for Season 2, succeeding Azusa Sasaki, who served as color designer in the first season.
Season 1 Recap
The first season premiered on January 6, airing on Kansai TV and Fuji TV as part of the newly launched “Ka-Anival!!” programming block every Tuesday at 11:00 p.m. JST, with BS Asahi broadcasts beginning January 9. The 12th and final episode aired on March 24. Crunchyroll streamed the series with both subtitles and an English dub.
Story Synopsis
When Arisu Yamabuki was all alone in bed at night, he found solace in the voice of a radio host who went by “Apollo.” But one day, she vanished from the airwaves without explanation. Years later, Arisu is now a second-year high school student with a mission: to find Apollo, because there’s something he needs to tell her. He doesn’t know her face or even her real name, but he picks up leads through his school’s broadcasting club — where he meets four girls who all dream of careers that let them make full use of their voices. Just who is Apollo, and where will those four girls’ dreams lead?
About the Manga
Igarashi, also known for Senryū Girl and Detectives These Days Are Crazy!, launched the manga in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in September 2023. The 14th compiled volume is due out on August 17. Kodansha USA Publishing holds the English-language license and released the eighth volume on July 7. The manga is also available digitally in English via Kodansha’s K MANGA service.
