The summer 2026 TV anime Yani Neko has released the synopsis and advance scene cuts for Episode 2, “Nya’s Kouhai” (「ニャーの後輩たちにゃ」), which is scheduled to air on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
About Yani Neko
Yani Neko is based on the manga by Nyannyan Factory, serialized in Kodansha’s Young Magazine. The series is a comedy set in a world where humans and beastpeople coexist, following the smoke-filled daily life of irredeemable but oddly endearing cat-people. The protagonist, Yani Neko, is a beastperson who drifts through life with a cigarette perpetually in hand — broke, irresponsible, and utterly lacking in manners. Yet somehow, she and her fellow degenerate cats manage to find a certain fulfillment in their chaotic days. The manga went viral on social media and has now made its TV anime debut.
Episode 2 Synopsis: “Nya’s Kouhai”
Running out of cigarettes, Yani Neko heads next door to bum one off her junior, Yaku Neko — who is acting decidedly strange. Despite being dragged along by her kouhai’s erratic behavior, the two end up hanging out as usual, surrounded by suspicious smoke and unsettling antics that inspire nothing but anxiety.
When Yaku Neko suggests Yani Neko pick up a part-time job, Yani Neko seizes the moment to lecture her on the virtues of a “free lifestyle.” Living by your own rules is all well and good — but please, just get a job and buy your own cigarettes.
