The ukiyo-e print 「ゲゲゲ浮世絵 花散しの友誼」 (GeGeGe Ukiyo-e – Friendship Amid Falling Petals), inspired by the film Kitaro Tanjo: GeGeGe no Nazo (鬼太郎誕生 ゲゲゲの謎), has been announced for a limited-time resale. Orders will be accepted through the online shop 「浮世絵工房」 from June 10, 2026 at noon until June 30, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.
About Kitaro Tanjo: GeGeGe no Nazo
The film opened in November 2023 as a work commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Shigeru Mizuki, creator of the original series. It tells the secret behind Kitaro’s birth, including the first meeting between Kitaro’s father, who later becomes Medama Oyaji, and Mizuki, as well as the fate the two face together. The film received high praise, including the Best Animation award at the 47th Japan Academy Prize, and also received a special version with remastered visuals and audio titled Kitaro Tanjo: GeGeGe no Nazo Shinsei-ban.
Staff and Voice Cast
The film is directed by Go Koga, known for Gegege no Kitaro: Nippon Bakuretsu!!, with a screenplay by Hiroyuki Yoshino, familiar to fans for the TV anime Macross F. Character design is handled by Toko Yatabe, who previously worked as an assistant director on Shin Evangelion.
In the voice cast, Toshihiko Seki plays Kitaro’s father in the past, before he became Medama Oyaji, while Hidenobu Kiuchi plays Mizuki. The cast also includes many prominent voice actors, such as Atsumi Tanezaki, Yumiko Kobayashi, Tetsu Shiratori, Nobuo Tobita, Yoko Sawaumi, Kazuya Nakai, Kazuhiro Yamaji, Yuko Minaguchi, Rie Kugimiya, Akira Ishida, Masaya Matsukaze, as well as cast members from the sixth TV anime series including Miyuki Sawashiro, Masako Nozawa, Umeka Shoji and Toshio Furukawa.
A Long-Awaited Ukiyo-e Print
「花散しの友誼」 depicts the deep bond between Kitaro’s father and Mizuki through traditional ukiyo-e composition and colors. Since its first release, the work has received an enthusiastic response, and even after sales ended, fans continued requesting that it be made available again. Those requests have now been answered with this new sales round.
The image shows the two characters standing among falling petals, quietly conveying friendship, fate and the fragility of life. Mizuki kindly holds an umbrella over Kitaro’s father, while Kitaro’s father gazes at the cherry blossoms and snow swirling around them.
The composition was inspired by classic ukiyo-e works including 「雷正九郎（庄九郎）」 by Utagawa Kuniyoshi, 「青砥稿花紅彩画 白浪五人男」 by Utagawa Yoshiharu, and 「花誘吉原の夜雨 東八景ノ内・中村歌右衛門」 by Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III).
