The theatrical anime project based on the self-produced music video Mahō no Nai Sekai de Ikiru to Iu Koto (Living in a World Without Magic) has announced plans to expand internationally, including a fan campaign and appearances at major global events.

From Graduation Project to Viral Phenomenon

The original MV was created by illustrator Akiwashi as a graduation project and went on to amass over 6.3 million views on YouTube. Voice actor Natsuki Hanae contributed to the MV, and KADOKAWA has also published a novelization of the work.

Story of the Theatrical Film

Set in a world where witches quietly blend in among ordinary people, the film follows a boy named Haru who encounters a one-eyed witch named Sara and is drawn into uncovering “the forgotten past of the witches.”

International Fan Support Campaign

To build momentum overseas, the project has launched a support initiative called “Mahoseka Gekijōban Ōen Club” on AnimeOshi, a platform aimed at English-speaking anime fans. Members gain access to progress reports, early information, as well as Akiwashi’s sketches, original character designs, and behind-the-scenes footage.

Annecy 2026 and Anime Expo 2026

Anime studio KASAGI LABO will host an industry panel at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026 in France on June 24 (local time). Masao Maruyama, founder of both Madhouse and MAPPA, will appear as a guest speaker to discuss the latest developments on the project and new possibilities for Japanese anime in the global market.

The project has also confirmed a booth presence at Anime Expo 2026 in the United States, which kicks off on July 2.
