Ahead of its terrestrial TV broadcast debut on Thursday, July 9, 2026, the TV anime Sūpā no Ura de Yani Suu Futari (Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You) will be celebrated with a free exclusive special program on ABEMA on Saturday, July 4, 2026, starting at 8:30 p.m. JST. The special will feature the three main cast members: Takuya Sato (as Sasaki), Kinari Hoshi (as Yamada/Tayama), and Nobuya Takahashi (as Suzuki).
About the Series
The original manga by Jinushi began serialization on the author’s Twitter (now X) on March 9, 2022. The first chapter accumulated 280,000 likes and sparked widespread buzz. The series later moved to Monthly Big Gangan (Square Enix) and won 1st place in the Web Manga category of the Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taisho 2022. Compiled volumes have surpassed 3 million copies in circulation as of January 2026.
Story
Sasaki is a worn-out salaryman whose small daily pleasures are his cigarettes and the cheerful service of Yamada, a clerk at his regular supermarket. One exhausted evening he heads to the store only to find Yamada absent and no place to smoke. Just as his spirits sink, a quirky-dressed woman named Tayama approaches and says, “You can smoke here.” The two begin sharing idle conversation at the smoking area behind the supermarket — a relationship that defies easy definition, told as a quiet adult drama.
