The official X/Twitter account for the Snowball Earth television anime — based on the manga by Yuhiro Tsujitsugu — announced on Friday that the series has been greenlit for a second season. A trailer was unveiled alongside the announcement, which came on the same day the 13th and final episode of Season 1 aired.
Story
In the year 2025, enormous beasts from beyond the galaxy launch an assault on Earth. Humanity fights back using a giant robot called Yukio, piloted by Tetsuo Yabusame and the Earth Defense Force — but they lose. Yukio is destroyed in the decisive battle, and Tetsuo escapes in a survival pod. After eight years in cold sleep, the pod finally returns to Earth, but the world Tetsuo wakes up to is one of total ruin: the entire planet is locked beneath a vast sheet of ice and snow — a Snowball Earth. What happened to humanity, how did the planet freeze over, and can Tetsuo keep his last promise to Yukio?
