โดราเอมอนและโนบิตะ ตัวละครจากAnime Doraemon

Content distributor CAKE and Japanese broadcaster TV Asahi have announced a partnership to bring the beloved Doraemon anime to English-speaking audiences worldwide, with the stated aim of refreshing the franchise’s library and introducing the timeless Japanese icon to new viewers.

A Brand-New Localisation, Not a New Production

Initial announcements referred to a “new English-language version,” prompting questions from fans about what that entailed. CAKE has since clarified to Anime News Network that existing episodes will receive a brand-new localisation rather than an entirely new production. Further details are expected to be revealed at the MIPCOM media trade show in October.

About Doraemon

The Doraemon manga was created by the duo Fujiko Fujio A (Abiko) and Fujiko F. Fujio (Fujimoto), running from 1970 to 1996. The series follows a robot cat from the future named Doraemon and his friendship with a young boy named Nobita. The two creators collaborated until parting ways in 1987, after which Abiko adopted the Fujiko Fujio A pen name and Fujimoto took the Fujiko F. Fujio pseudonym.

The manga spawned one of the most successful children’s media franchises in the world, inspiring numerous anime films and three separate television anime series. The third TV anime, which began in 2005, is still ongoing and consistently ranks among the highest-rated anime on Japanese television week after week.

Latest Film and Games

The 2026 Doraemon theatrical film, Eiga Doraemon: Shin Nobita no Kaitei Kiganjō (Doraemon the Movie: New Nobita and the Castle of the Undersea Devil), opened in Japan on February 27.

On the gaming front, Kairosoft’s Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story launched on Nintendo Switch in English and Japanese in August 2024, followed by iOS and Android in September 2024, PC via Steam in December 2024, and PlayStation and Xbox consoles in January 2025.

CAKE Continues to Expand Its Portfolio

The Doraemon deal comes alongside CAKE’s separately announced partnership with World Events Productions (WEP) to distribute 280 episodes of the Voltron animated franchise globally, underscoring the company’s growing ambitions in the international animation market.
