The production team behind the Toaru Anbu no Item (A Certain ITEM of the Dark Side) television anime — based on Kazuma Kamachi‘s spinoff novel series — released a new trailer on Friday, along with the names of the theme song artists and the confirmed premiere date.

The new trailer previews the opening theme “Ghost Sequence” performed by East Of Eden, and the ending theme “Genshi Kuzushi (Meltdown)” performed by Kishida Kyōdan & The Akeboshi Rockets.
Premiere
The anime is set to begin airing on October 9 on Tokyo MX. It is the latest entry in the A Certain Magical Index franchise. The “ITEM” in the title refers to the secret organization ITEM operating within Academy City, and the story follows the women who work on the “dark side” of that city.

Staff
Tatsuyuki Nagai, who previously directed A Certain Scientific Railgun, is helming the new anime at J.C. Staff. Shigeki Kimoto, chief animation director on both A Certain Scientific Railgun and A Certain Magical Index, is handling character design. Maiko Iuchi — known for her work on A Certain Magical Index, A Certain Scientific Railgun, A Certain Scientific Accelerator, and Selector Infected Wixoss — is composing the score.
Source Material
Kadokawa published the sixth volume of the light novel series on February 10 under its Dengeki Bunko imprint. A manga adaptation launched in fall 2023; the first compiled volume shipped in June 2024 and the second in April 2025.
Kamachi’s A Certain Magical Index franchise has spawned three TV anime series, a 2013 anime film, and multiple manga adaptations. The A Certain Scientific Railgun spinoff manga has likewise inspired three TV anime seasons, a fourth season already announced, and an OVA.
