The summer 2026 original anime Möbius Dust has released the synopsis and advance scene cuts for its first episode, #1 “First Light,” which premieres on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
About Möbius Dust
The series is based on an original concept by Shinagawa Hajime, winner of the grand prize in the “Kids Game Anime” category of Project ANIMA — the third installment of a public competition aimed at producing defining original anime of the 2020s. It marks Doga Kobo‘s first original supernatural-battle TV anime, directed by Iwasaki Taro, known for Sweetness and Lightning and Bibliophile Princess.
Story Overview
Ten years after a meteorite impact, a massive crystal has been emitting mysterious particles known as 〈Möbius Dust〉. Exposed children have developed special abilities called 〈Ramus〉 — but these powers only activate within the range of the Möbius Dust. As a result, children who possess Ramus, known as 〈Ramus Carriers〉, are forbidden from leaving the town of 〈Shinkatsushika〉.
To cope with the frustration of being confined, the children form teams and compete in territory-claiming games using their Ramus abilities. High schooler Araki is one of them, forming the team 〈Police Hopper〉 with his younger sister Stella and childhood friend Olga, spending every night immersed in the game. One day, Dr. Yuda, a Ramus researcher, reaches out and asks them to participate in an experiment — a decision that sets their fate in motion.
Episode 1 Synopsis — “First Light”
A group of kids known as the 〈Naughties〉 spend their nights playing games with their Ramus abilities. Among the five competing teams, Police Hopper member Araki dreams of one day leaving Shinkatsushika behind.
Then a researcher named Yuda Mari, who claims to be a passionate fan of the Naughties, slides into their DMs with an offer: help her research, and she’ll find a way to get them out of the town. What she needs is data on their Ramus abilities — even a decade after the meteorite fell, much about Ramus remains scientifically unexplained, and that mystery is the very reason the children face so many restrictions.
There’s a catch: the kids have been prohibited from using their powers at full strength. To get around this, Dr. Yuda provides them with special items that let them unleash their abilities freely without being caught. Liberated from their self-imposed limits, Araki and his friends throw themselves even deeper into their midnight games.
