Netflix will begin streaming the Banana Fish anime on August 12. The series had previously been available with subtitles on Amazon Prime Video before being removed from the service.
Amazon Prime Video had briefly listed “AI beta” dubs in English and Latin American Spanish for the series in late November, but those dubs were pulled in December.
About the Anime
The anime premiered on Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block in July 2018. It adapts the entirety of the source manga, though the setting was updated to present-day New York rather than the 1980s of the original. Amazon Prime Video had simulcast the series with English subtitles during its original broadcast run.
Viz Media publishes the manga in English. The story centers on Ash Lynx, a strikingly handsome 17-year-old who was raised as the adopted heir, enforcer, and sexual plaything of Dino Golzine, the Corsican crime lord of the East Coast. Now at a rebellious age, Ash rejects the empire Golzine offers him, choosing instead to live by his own code among a small, loyal street gang. But Golzine refuses to let him walk away — especially after the terrible secret that drove Ash’s older brother to madness in Vietnam suddenly falls into his ambitious hands.
Into this volatile situation arrives Eiji Okamura, a pure-hearted young photographer from Japan, who befriends Ash and is drawn with him into a deadly spiral of violence and intrigue surrounding the enigma known as Banana Fish.
