The summer 2026 anime Super no Ura de Yani Suu Futari (Smoking Behind the Supermarket Together) has released the synopsis and preview stills for its second episode, Super no Ura de Soeru Futari, set to air on Thursday, July 16, 2026, simultaneously across 28 TBS-affiliated stations nationwide in Japan.
About the Series
The TV anime is based on the manga by Jishu, which began serialization on the creator’s Twitter (now X) on March 9, 2022. The first chapter alone accumulated 280,000 likes, sparking widespread buzz. The series currently runs in Square Enix’s monthly magazine Big Gangan and took first place in the Web Manga category of the “Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taisho 2022” awards. Compiled volume sales surpassed 3 million copies as of January 2026.
Animation production is handled by Asahi Production, co-directed by Suzuki Masato and Mori Aoi.
Story Premise
Sasaki is a worn-out middle-aged salaryman who finds quiet solace in his cigarettes and the warm smile of Yamada, a cheerful clerk at his local supermarket. One exhausted evening, he heads to the store only to find Yamada absent — and nowhere to smoke. Just as his spirits sink, a quirky-dressed woman named Tayama approaches and tells him, “You can smoke here.” That chance encounter sets the stage for this adult drama.
Episode 2 Synopsis — Super no Ura de Soeru Futari
Sasaki is beating himself up after making a new employee cry. He returns to the smoking spot behind the supermarket and runs into Tayama again. She encourages him, saying the new hire will surely come to appreciate his good qualities — but Sasaki doesn’t quite seem to get it. In response, Tayama decides to pass on “something” to him…
