The live-action film adaptation of Matchmond, based on the manga by Shogo Horiuchi, has released its main trailer and main visual. The film is set to open in Japanese cinemas on September 11, 2026.
Story
Matchmond is set in a world where a matching app called “Match to Match” — designed to connect people looking for a fight rather than a date — has taken the youth underground by storm. The story follows Mikio, a cowardly and weak fighter who is fiercely loyal to his friends, and Mahiro, a young man who is unrivalled in combat. The two are drawn into a fierce battle among high schoolers competing for strength, prize money, and friendship.

The main trailer opens with Mikio introducing the Match to Match app to Mahiro, before showcasing a parade of eccentric delinquent crews. Among them is the Mayonnaise Army, led by Umezу Naoya, whose outlandish hairstyle has earned him the nickname “Mayonnaise Head,” and Aichi Soukai, commanded by ranker Nikaido Mairu, who carries a bounty of 17 million yen. The trailer is packed with high-energy fight choreography throughout.
The main visual features Mikio holding a cracked smartphone, with Mahiro’s face reflected on the broken screen — a striking image that captures the bond between the two leads.
