Crunchyroll has begun streaming That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea (Gekijō-ban Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken: Sōkai no Namida-hen), the second theatrical film in the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime franchise, across multiple regions including the United Kingdom and the United States. The film is available with English subtitles, an English dub, and several other subtitled and dubbed language options.
Box Office Performance
The film originally opened in Japan on February 27, debuting at #3 in its opening weekend. It sold 225,000 tickets and grossed 301,175,600 yen (approximately US$1.91 million) in its first three days.
The film then crossed to North American theaters on May 1, opening at #9 at the US box office across 837 theaters. It earned US$1,000,000 in its opening three days, screening in both Japanese with English subtitles and in an English dub.
Story
The film’s original story picks up after the founding celebration of the Tempest Federation. Elmesia, ruler of the elf nation of Sarion, invites Rimuru and other senior Tempest officials to a resort island for a well-earned vacation. Their relaxation is short-lived, however, as the appearance of a mysterious girl named Yura and a creeping darkness force Rimuru to face a new threat.
Staff & Music
Animation production is handled by 8-Bit. The film features the following musical contributions:
- TRUE performs the theme song “Utopia.”
- Cast member Saori Ōnishi (voice of Yura) sings the insert song “Sōkoku” (Blue Moment).
- Six-member unit ARCANA PROJECT performs the insert song “Renainō” (Talent for Romance).
- ASH, of STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION and ASH DA HERO, contributed to the insert song “Harmonics.”
Season 4 & Source Material
The anime’s fourth season premiered on April 3 on NTV’s expanded “Friday Anime Night” block at 11:00 p.m. JST, with BS11 following on April 4 at 10:00 p.m. JST. Crunchyroll simulcasts the season as it airs in Japan. The season is planned for a total run of five cours, with the first two airing back-to-back.
The original light novel was written by Fuse, who serialized the story on the “Shōsetsuka ni Narō” website from 2013 to 2016, accumulating over 400 million page views. Micro Magazine has published the print edition with illustrations by Mitz Va since 2014. The series concluded with its 23rd and final volume on November 29, released alongside a spinoff side-story volume titled Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken: Toaru Kyūka no Sugoshi-kata (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: How to Spend a Certain Vacation). A new side-story novel series is slated to launch in 2026.
