The TV anime Akane Banashi (あかね噺) is heading to the online lottery service Kujirakido (くじ引き堂), with sales kicking off on August 19, 2026 at noon JST. The campaign spotlights three characters — Sakurazaki Akane, Renma-ya Karashi, and Kōragi Hikaru — dressed in eye-catching wa-modern outfits, alongside a lineup of acrylic keychains featuring Akane’s senior disciples.
About Akane Banashi
Akane Banashi is a manga by writer Suenaga Yuki and artist Magami Takamasa, serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. The story follows Sakurazaki Akane, a girl raised on the art of rakugo by her father — a storyteller who performed under the stage name Arakawa Shinta. After witnessing a shocking incident during her father’s bid to reach the highest rank of shin’uchi (真打), Akane — now a high school student six years later — sets out to climb the ranks of rakugo herself.
The TV anime debuted in April 2026, drawing attention even from those in traditional performing arts circles. A second season is scheduled to air from January 2027. The main cast includes Nagase Anna as Akane, Eguchi Takuya as Karashi (a university student who won the student rakugo championship “Karakuhai” two years running), and Takahashi Rie as Hikaru. Both the opening and ending theme songs are performed by Kuwata Keisuke, a well-known rakugo enthusiast. Animation is produced by Zexcs.
