Streaming platform ABEMA will open a dedicated GeGeGe no Kitaro (ゲゲゲの鬼太郎) channel for a limited period running from 24 August 2026 at 18:00 through to 27 September 2026 at 05:00. The channel marks the first time ABEMA has hosted a dedicated space for the beloved franchise created by Shigeru Mizuki.
A Legend Since 1968
The GeGeGe no Kitaro TV anime first aired on 3 January 1968. The series follows Kitaro, the last survivor of the Ghost Tribe, as he teams up with companions including Neko Musume and Medama Oyaji to resolve conflicts between humans and yokai. The franchise has remained a cornerstone of Japanese anime culture across six television seasons. In 2023, the theatrical film Kitaro Tanjo: GeGeGe no Nazo (鬼太郎誕生 ゲゲゲの謎) — exploring the backstory of Kitaro’s father — was released to widespread acclaim.
All 536 Episodes Free to Watch
The ABEMA / “GeGeGe no Kitaro” Channel will kick off with a marathon broadcast of the first TV anime season on 24 August, before airing all episodes from Season 1 through Season 6 — a total of 536 episodes — free of charge every day throughout the event period. The 2023 film Kitaro Tanjo: GeGeGe no Nazo will also be broadcast for free as part of the lineup.
