To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Pierrot’s magical girl franchise and the broadcast debut of its newest entry 魔法の姉妹ルルットリリィ, Bandai Namco Filmworks has officially announced the Magical Emi, the Magic Star 40th Anniversary Blu-ray BOX (Special Limited Edition). The set is priced at ¥36,300 (tax included) and is scheduled for release on August 26, 2026.
About the Series
Magical Emi, the Magic Star (魔法のスターマジカルエミ) aired from June 1985 to February 1986 for a total of 38 episodes, making it the third entry in Pierrot’s magical girl lineup following Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel and Magical Fairy Persia. True to its concept of portraying a young girl’s genuine growth, the production cast then-newcomer singer Yoko Obata as the lead voice actress, who also performed all opening, ending, and insert songs. The series was directed by Takashi Anno (known for Spirit of Wonder and Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou), with character designs by Yoshiyuki Kishi (Osomatsu-kun, Heisei Tensai Bakabon).
What’s in the Box
The TV series’ 38 episodes have been remastered from the original film, while bonus content has been given an HD remaster treatment. The set is spread across six Blu-ray discs:
- 5 main discs — all 38 TV episodes (1080p / 4:3)
- 1 bonus disc — four OVAs: 「魔法のスターマジカルエミ－蝉時雨－」, 「魔法のスターマジカルエミ－雲光る－」, 「フィナーレ！フィナーレ！」, and 「艶姿魔法の三人娘」; clean OP/ED; the Mahou Shoujo Festival apology film 「ごめんなさいフィルム」; and the music clip 「風のinvitation」
Physical extras include a special booklet and a Kurumi BOX with inner jacket, both featuring newly drawn illustrations by original character designer Yoshiyuki Kishi.

Five episodes feature newly recorded audio commentaries from cast and staff members:
- DISC 1 — Episode 1: Yu Mizushima, Naoki Tatsuta, Yuko Mita
- DISC 2 — Episode 16: Kazuyoshi Katayama, Yumiko Horasawa, Koji Shimada (MC)
