Frontier Works released the first promotional video for the television anime adaptation of Atamoto‘s manga Tanuki to Kitsune (Raccoon Dog and Fox) on Friday. The video offers fans their first look at actual footage from the series and officially announces the voice cast.

Story

The manga follows the everyday lives of a somewhat absent-minded raccoon dog and a mischievous fox who loves to tease him. The two are close friends living together on a mountain, joined by a cast of animal companions including a wolf, a bear, a rabbit, and various birds.

Staff

Tommy Hino, known for Kumarba (TV 3) and Crane Game Girls, is directing the anime at Akatsuki Media Studio. Rika Kihara, whose credits include Sylvanian Families Freya no Piece of Secret, is handling series composition.

Premiere Details

The anime is set to premiere on October 4, airing as part of the “Animori” programming block on TV Tokyo and its affiliated stations every Sunday at 7:00 a.m.

10th Anniversary Celebration

The anime marks the franchise’s 10th anniversary. Atamoto originally began serializing the manga on X (formerly Twitter), with Frontier Works publishing the print editions. The franchise now encompasses 10 manga volumes and three picture book volumes, with a combined circulation of over 1.35 million copies. It has also spawned a wide range of merchandise and sticker sets on the LINE messaging app.

The second volume of the new spinoff manga series Tanuki to Kitsune Yurutto is scheduled to ship on October 15. A previous run of web anime shorts first debuted back in February 2018.
