The staff behind the anime film To You in the Beyond — an adaptation of Akiko Abe‘s novel Doko Yori mo Tooi Basho ni Iru Kimi e — released a compilation of six character promotional videos on Monday, while also announcing four additional cast members.

- Sumire Uesaka as Tamaki Mishima, an honors student and classmate of Kazuki and Nao
- Wataru Hatano as Shōji Aiba, a generous and sincere young man
- Nobuhiko Okamoto as Akimitsu Yamu, Kazuki’s friend
- Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Yoshiki Suga, who sees Kazuki as a rival

Story
The film follows Kazuki Tsukigase, a boy who transfers to a high school on a remote island to escape everyone who knows him. He hears rumors of an inlet on the island where people are said to vanish. When he ventures there, he discovers an unconscious girl. After he brings her to a clinic and she regains consciousness, she can only reveal that her name is Nao, that she is 16 years old — and she whispers the year “1974.”
Staff and Release
Junichi Wada (HIGH CARD) is directing the film at TMS Entertainment. Sayaka Kuwamura (Strobe Edge; Josee, the Tiger and the Fish) wrote the screenplay, Hechima (Cosmic Princess Kaguya!) serves as character designer and chief animation director, and Kōji Nakamura is composing the score. Musician Tota performs the opening theme song, “Olive.”
The film opens in Japan on October 9, distributed by Shochiku. Production companies Shochiku and Pony Canyon have stated that international release details will be announced at a later date.
Source Novel and Manga
Abe’s original novel was published by Shueisha in October 2017 with illustrations by syo5. A manga adaptation by Haruka Chino launched on Shueisha’s Tonari no Young Jump website in August 2025; the first compiled volume went on sale on February 19.
