The October issue of Kadokawa’s Comic Flapper magazine announced on September 4 that the Lycoris Recoil manga — drawn by Yasunori Bizen and written by Spider Lily — will come to an end in just two more chapters.
Story Overview
Set in a Japan where violent crime and terrorism have been nearly eradicated, the series follows the secret agents known as Lycoris: schoolgirls who blend into everyday life on street corners and in trendy cafés, all while carrying concealed weapons and carrying out covert missions.
Manga Run
Bizen and Spider Lily launched the manga adaptation in Comic Flapper in September 2022. Kadokawa shipped the ninth compiled volume on August 21, while Yen Press, which publishes the series in English, released its fifth volume on June 23.
Spinoff Novel and Anime
A spinoff novel, Lycoris Recoil: Ordinary Days by Asaura, depicts the “not-so-common daily life” of Chisato, Takina, and the rest of the Café LycoReco crew, and surpassed 250,000 copies in circulation in 2022.
The original television anime premiered in July 2022, marking the directorial debut of Shingo Adachi, previously known as character designer and chief animation director on Sword Art Online and Wagnaria!! (Working!!). Imigimuru (This Art Club Has a Problem!) handled character design for the anime, A-1 Pictures produced it, Asaura (author of Ben-To) drafted the story, and Kimika Onai — known for designing outfits for Nogizaka46 and Sakurazaka46 — created the characters’ uniforms.
Crunchyroll streamed the series simulcast alongside its Japanese broadcast and also offered an English dub. The anime later aired on Adult Swim‘s Toonami block in January 2024.
Most recently, six anime short films titled Lycoris Recoil: Friends are thieves of time. streamed on Aniplex’s YouTube channel and on Crunchyroll in April 2025.
