The TVアニメ『Re:ゼロから始める異世界生活』展 -10th Anniversary-, the very first exhibition dedicated to the Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World anime franchise, opened its doors at Shibuya BEAM Gallery in Tokyo on September 12, 2026, running through October 4, 2026.

On the eve of the opening, September 11, a media preview and press conference were held, with two of the series’ lead voice actors in attendance: Kobayashi Yusuke (Natsuki Subaru) and Takahashi Rie (Emilia). The pair toured the exhibition ahead of the public and shared their thoughts on the displays, recording memories, and rare audio from their original auditions.

A Decade of Re:Zero Under One Roof

The exhibition traces the journey of Subaru and the entire cast across ten years of the anime, using a wide variety of displays and installations. It opens with an Opening Theater featuring a giant screen condensing a decade of footage, then moves through character material zones, dedicated areas for each season from 1st through 4th, and a Memorial Gallery filled with artwork and memorabilia from the series’ history.

Kobayashi described the experience as being able to “relive the story as if going through it again,” and noted that columns written by the director, production staff, and cast members are placed throughout, making him feel that visitors should “stop at each spot and take it all in carefully.” Takahashi said she heard many behind-the-scenes stories from the staff for the first time, including details about the audition process she had long been curious about.

Zone-by-Zone Highlights

1st Season — The Unseen Hand of Petelgeuse

The standout attraction in the 1st Season zone is the “Diligent Photo Spot,” a giant recreation of the Unseen Hand (見えざる手), the Authority of the Sin Archbishop of Sloth, Petelgeuse Romanée-Conti. Visitors can actually stand on the enormous palm for photos. Kobayashi reflected that “the 1st Season left a particularly strong impression of the path Subaru has walked.”

2nd Season — The Great Rabbit and the “Choose Me” Memorial Theater

The 2nd Season zone features two major highlights. The first is a detailed recreation of the Great Rabbit, one of the Three Great Mabeasts. Takahashi marveled at the intricacy of the sculpting, while Kobayashi laughed that “some parts are a little grotesque — you can really see how serious the staff were about it.”

The second is the “‘Choose Me’ Memorial Theater,” recreating the burning Forbidden Library from Episode 49 — the top-ranked episode in the series’ popularity poll — where Subaru and Beatrice make their promise to each other, brought to life through immersive visuals and audio.

3rd Season — The Watergate City Pristella Diorama

The 3rd Season zone is anchored by a large three-dimensional diorama of Watergate City Pristella, allowing visitors to look down from above and trace exactly where Subaru and the Sin Archbishops clashed. The zone also includes a “Hero Fantasy Photo Spot” recreating Subaru’s speech podium, and a “Super Animation Dissection” display featuring over 100 of the roughly 3,000 key animation frames from the Garfiel vs. Kurgan battle in Episode 63, showing the production process behind the action sequence.

4th Season — Right Up to the Latest Episode

The exhibition even covers the currently airing 4th Season, including Episode 82, “Natsuki Subaru.” Kobayashi was genuinely surprised: “I never imagined they’d go all the way to the latest episode — the staff really pushed to the very limit,” adding that he was grateful for their dedication.

In Episode 82, Kobayashi voices two versions of Subaru in a single scene. He recorded the amnesiac Subaru first, then listened back to that audio while performing the original Subaru. “Listening to my own voice and playing off it is an experience you rarely get in any other production,” he said. “But I never felt distracted by the fact that it was my own voice — which made me realize that ten years of work have truly shaped Natsuki Subaru as a character within me.”

Hearing the Audition Tapes for the First Time

One of the most emotionally resonant displays for both actors was the “Subaru and Emilia’s ‘Zero'” section, where visitors can listen to the actual audition recordings Kobayashi and Takahashi submitted before the anime began airing. Kobayashi laughed: “I thought I wouldn’t sound that different — but I was so much younger!” Takahashi added, “But Subaru is still Subaru.”

Kobayashi elaborated: “At the time of the audition, we hadn’t yet deepened our understanding of the characters at all. It was pure first-impression acting, before our performances evolved into what they are now. I hope people can listen with a warm heart and think, ‘So this is where they started from’ (laughs). It really was from zero.” Takahashi noted that she had imagined Emilia as a slower, more gentle character at the time, so her audition performance had a more leisurely tempo — whereas now the character feels much more lively and nimble.

The display also includes a written account from Executive Producer Tanaka Sho explaining why each actor was cast. Takahashi said: “I’ve always known I was chosen, but seeing what the person who chose me was hoping for — and knowing he watched over us for ten years with those expectations — made me really happy.”

The Recording Studio Atmosphere Across Four Seasons

Kobayashi said the biggest shift in the recording environment came during the 2nd Season, which was recorded under the difficult conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. “The hardships of the 1st Season had forged a real bond between us, and that bond is what got us through,” he said. After the 2nd Season, characters like Beatrice and Roswaal became more firmly established as part of “Emilia’s camp,” and the studio atmosphere shifted again in the 3rd Season. Takahashi recalled that the 3rd Season had a “let’s all go together” energy that matched the key visual. For the 4th Season, despite the brutal story content, Kobayashi confirmed that “the recording sessions themselves are very warm and relaxed.”

Tips for Visitors

Both actors’ top advice was simply: don’t rush. Kobayashi said, “Every episode of Re:Zero is heavy and memorable in the best way. Seeing the displays will bring those memories flooding back, so let yourself stop wherever your heart leads and take it all in before moving on.” He also recommended watching up to Episode 82 before visiting to enjoy the exhibition to its fullest. Takahashi offered a practical tip: “Wear comfortable shoes, because you’ll be standing still for a long time — and bring spending money for the merchandise!” She also noted that even viewers who have fallen behind can enjoy the exhibition, as it will surely reignite their motivation to keep watching.
