Bandai Namco Filmworks announced on Monday that artist Yuika will perform the opening theme song for the upcoming television anime adaptation of Jun Wakatsuki‘s manga Promise Me the Spotlight (Japanese title: Watashi o Center ni Suru to Chikaimasuka?).
Yuika unveiled and performed the song live for the first time at her special solo concert “Sanvitalia” on the same day. The opening theme is titled “Nanimono demo nakatta Watashi dakara” (roughly translated as “Because I Was No One”).
Story Synopsis
The series centers on Mizuki Natsuno, the least popular member of the nationally acclaimed idol group Melty Strawberry. Her devoted fan Koichi Okuta pours everything he has into supporting her. Through an unexpected turn of events, the two end up living together under the same roof, and Koichi vows to make Mizuki the group’s new Center. What follows is an unconventional partnership between a die-hard fan and his idol as they work together to lift Mizuki from obscurity to stardom — with Mizuki’s own condition hanging over them: “If you can really make me the Center… then we can get married.”
Manga Background
Wakatsuki launched the manga in Kodansha’s Shonen Magazine Edge in 2022. When the magazine ceased publication in 2023, the series moved to Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket app. The sixth compiled volume was released on July 9. English-language readers can follow the series through Kodansha’s K MANGA service.
