Veteran Japanese voice actor Naoki Bandō passed away on Monday, September 28, at the age of 69. His management agency, Production Ace, officially announced his death on Friday, noting that he had been undergoing medical treatment prior to his passing.

Notable Roles

Bandō was widely recognized by anime fans for voicing Robonyan and a host of other characters throughout the Yo-kai Watch franchise. He also lent his voice to Torenov Y. Minovsky, a pivotal figure in the UC universe of the Gundam franchise, appearing in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin.

Over a career spanning more than four decades, his other prominent roles included:

  • Silvarion in The Brave of Gold Goldran
  • Guard Star in The Brave Fighter of Sun Fighbird
  • Kintetsu Oosawagi in Urayasu Tekkin Kazoku
  • Vargas Dyson in Mobile Suit Gundam AGE
  • Gato in Naruto
  • Centichoro in One-Punch Man
  • Emon in the game Shadow of the Colossus
  • Larikush in the game Baten Kaitos

Beyond anime and games, Bandō also contributed to Japanese dubs of foreign productions, including the television series ER and 24, as well as the films Casino Royale and The Matrix, demonstrating the remarkable breadth of his talent.

His passing marks a profound loss for the Japanese voice acting industry, and his work will be remembered fondly by fans around the world.
